Dogecoin Weekly News Review — September 7–13, 2026

1. The week in context

This edition covers September 7–13, 2026 — seven dated stories, all verifiable, all sourced. DOGE opened the week at $0.0905 after the prior week's +10.8% recovery and spent it giving the gain back, closing at $0.0824 (−9.4%). The week had three storylines that kept colliding: a countdown to the DOGE-1 lunar launch that fed the narrative, a price tape that digested the hype, and an institutional channel that quietly shrank when Bitwise announced it is winding down its BWOW Dogecoin ETF. Every item below is dated inside the window; the on-chain figures behind the narrative — transactions, active addresses, fees, issuance — live in our data report, linked at the foot of this page. Format stays: facts first with the source line, then a separated Take.

2. Sep 7: The week opens five days out from DOGE-1

On Monday, September 7, the countdown that defined the week was already running: the DOGE-1 lunar satellite is scheduled to launch on September 14 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The mission is run by Geometric Energy Corporation and is famous for one detail — the launch services agreement was paid entirely in Dogecoin in 2021, making GEC the first crypto-paying customer of SpaceX. The CubeSat is designed to collect lunar-spatial intelligence and imagery, with an on-orbit display system broadcasting images back toward Earth. The mission has slipped repeatedly since its May 2021 announcement, which is worth remembering before treating any single date as final.

Take: A five-year-old invoice paid in DOGE is finally reaching the pad. We track the launch date as a dated fact and treat everything else — price targets, 'to the moon' framing — as commentary that belongs to other people.

3. Sep 8: A cup-and-handle map toward $0.10

On Tuesday, September 8, market analyst Trader Tardigrade posted a 12-hour chart read identifying a developing cup-and-handle structure — a base of accumulation followed by tight consolidation under resistance — with a breakout toward $0.10 as the projected completion. DOGE was trading near $0.090 at the time, inside its second week of recovery from the August low.

Take: We publish chart calls the way we publish weather forecasts: dated, attributed, and never treated as a promise. What matters for the record is that the $0.10 target was widely set on Sep 8–9 — because the rest of the week tested it.

4. Sep 9: Five days out, the media crowns $0.10

On Wednesday, September 9, coverage hardened around a simple frame: DOGE holding above $0.09 after an 11% weekly gain, five days before the DOGE-1 launch, with $0.10 as 'the next immediate target'. The same write-ups, to their credit, flagged that institutional inflows into DOGE ETFs remained modest compared with Bitcoin and Ethereum products — a caveat the rest of the week proved prescient.

Take: The narrative peak of the week arrived four days before the close. When a target and a catalyst land on the same calendar page, our rule is to note both and score neither until the tape settles.

5. Sep 10: The pullback nobody called a crisis

On Thursday, September 10, DOGE slipped roughly 3.3% over 33 hours, drifting from the well-advertised $0.091–0.092 resistance band toward $0.0869. CoinMarketCap's read was that this was digestion of a hype-driven rally — the DOGE-1 countdown, the technical breakouts, the social buzz — rather than any DOGE-specific negative event. The Fear and Greed Index cooled from 74 to 69, and attention shifted toward the Federal Reserve's September 16 decision.

CoinMarketCap (CMC AI), 'Dogecoin Pulls Back 3.3%: Normal Cooldown, Not Crisis', September 10, 2026.

Take: A rally built on a countdown can only digest or break. The honest Sep 10 scorecard: resistance held, sentiment cooled, and the macro calendar — not Dogecoin — owned the next data point.

6. Sep 11: CPI morning and a quiet ETF tape

On Friday, September 11, the United States released August CPI data at 8:30 a.m. in New York — the macro print that leveraged assets like DOGE trade hardest. Against that backdrop, the regulated DOGE channel stayed remarkably quiet: Maketo's tracker showed the three US spot DOGE ETFs with a cumulative net inflow of $12,091,458, a trailing week of effectively $0, a trailing month of −$108K, and an average cost basis near $0.11 — meaning the funds in aggregate are underwater at the current price.

US Bureau of Labor Statistics, August CPI release, September 11, 2026; Maketo, 'Dogecoin ETF Flows', reading as of September 11, 2026.

Take: Two tapes, one morning: the macro tape sets the price, the fund tape barely moves. A $12M cumulative channel buying at ~$0.11 has little dry powder and less appetite while price sits below cost.

7. Sep 12: Bitwise pulls the plug on BWOW

On Saturday, September 12, Bitwise announced it is closing its Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) less than a year after launch. The mechanics: share creation stops before the open on October 15, the fund ceases trading on NYSE Arca on October 14, the final NAV is calculated October 21, and remaining investors receive cash distributions around October 22. The record behind the decision: a cumulative net outflow of about −$1.23M, net assets of roughly $690K, and non-zero daily flows on only three trading days since the fund launched on November 24, 2025 (+$146K on Aug 24; −$972K on Dec 4, 2025; −$406K on Jan 20, 2026). Bitwise had the lowest fee in the complex at 0.34% — against Grayscale's GDOG ($11.7M cumulative inflows, 0.35% fee) and 21Shares' TDOG ($1.63M, 0.50%).

CryptoSlate, 'Bitwise is closing the lowest-fee Dogecoin ETF after rivals captured nearly all the capital', September 12, 2026.

Take: The first DOGE ETF exit is a market-structure fact, not a Dogecoin fact — $690K was never a load-bearing amount. But the lesson travels: in a $12M niche, the lowest fee did not win, distribution did.

8. Sep 13: A $0.00 day for the whole complex

On Sunday, September 13, the SoSoValue snapshot at 09:00 UTC showed the three US spot DOGE funds with a combined daily net flow of exactly $0.00. Net assets: GDOG (Grayscale) $8.67M, TDOG (21Shares) $2.54M, BWOW (Bitwise) $690.49K and closing. Cumulative net inflows: $11.70M, $1.63M and −$1.23M respectively. The entire complex equals about 0.09% of Dogecoin's market capitalization.

SoSoValue ETF data as of September 13, 2026, 09:00 UTC, via CoinMarketCap (Coingabbar, 'Dogecoin Price Prediction: Can DOGE Hold Its Bounce After ETF Exit?').

Take: 0.09% is the number to memorize from this week. Whether DOGE rallies or sinks on DOGE-1, the regulated wrapper is currently a rounding error on the asset it tracks.

9. Sep 13: The close

DOGE closed the week at $0.0824, down 9.4%, with the DOGE-1 launch set for the following morning. The week's daily closes (Gate.io DOGE/USDT, cross-checked against CoinEx):

DayClose
Sep 7 (Mon)$0.0905
Sep 8 (Tue)$0.0900
Sep 9 (Wed)$0.0862
Sep 10 (Thu)$0.0829
Sep 11 (Fri)$0.0843
Sep 12 (Sat)$0.0848
Sep 13 (Sun)$0.0824

The last four weekly closes now read: $0.0934 (Aug 23) → $0.0821 (Aug 30) → $0.0909 (Sep 6) → $0.0824 (Sep 13). Weekly changes are computed on unrounded closes.

10. Editor's synthesis: three forces

The week separated cleanly into three forces. First, narrative and usage moved in different units. The DOGE-1 countdown dominated attention, yet the on-chain base — about 22,600 transactions and 36,900 active addresses a day — stayed flat-to-lower; attention was priced in dollars, not in activity. Second, institutional absence now has a body count. Bitwise's exit, a $0.00 flow day across the complex, and a 0.09% share of market cap together say the ETF channel is not currently a DOGE price factor. Third, the macro gate held the keys. A resistance band everyone could see, a cooling Fear and Greed Index, and a Fed decision due September 16 made this a week where Dogecoin's price was mostly set by everything except Dogecoin. That is not a complaint — it is the accurate description of a $12.9B asset in a digestion phase.

11. What we left out (and why)

Three categories did not make the cut. A promotional token using the DOGE-1 name: a press-release circuit (including an Errol Musk video) promoted a $DOGE-1 token on Solana around the launch; it is not the Geometric Energy mission, we do not cover name-attached promotional tokens, and we say so rather than launder the coverage. Presale advertorials: several 'DOGE momentum' pieces this week were actually paid promotion for unrelated presales; they are marketing, not news. Unverified whale-accumulation screenshots: social posts claimed large accumulation with no verifiable source; without an address trail we leave them out.

12. How this review is produced

The pipeline behind every edition: we pull from a fixed whitelist (the DOGE-1 mission site, Dogecoin Foundation channels, Dogecoin Core on GitHub, ETF data trackers such as SoSoValue and Maketo, block explorers, market-data aggregators and mainstream industry media), then run the same steps every week: collect → de-duplicate → grade importance → classify → summarize → cross-verify → comment. Every story here is dated Sep 7–13, 2026, so you can check each one against its own source line. Commentary is separated from the record; when we get a number wrong we publish the correction instead of quietly editing history.

Frequently asked questions

Was the Bitwise BWOW closure bad news for Dogecoin itself?
Not directly. BWOW held about $690K — 0.005% of DOGE's market cap — and Dogecoin the network never depended on it. But as a demand signal it is honest: after ten months, the lowest-fee fund in the complex could not attract sustained money, and one issuer decided that was the answer.
What is DOGE-1 and when does it launch?
DOGE-1 is a lunar CubeSat mission run by Geometric Energy Corporation, scheduled to launch September 14, 2026 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center. Its 2021 launch agreement was paid entirely in Dogecoin. The mission has been delayed several times since 2021, so dates deserve some humility.
Why did DOGE fall 9.4% this week?
The best-supported reading: a hype-driven rally into a visible $0.091–0.092 resistance band ran out of buyers, sentiment cooled (Fear and Greed 74 → 69), and markets de-risked ahead of the Fed's September 16 decision. No DOGE-specific negative event was identified by coverage during the window.
How small are the DOGE ETFs, really?
Combined net assets were about $11.83M as of September 13 — roughly 0.09% of DOGE's market cap. Cumulative net inflows since the November 2025 launches total about $12.09M, the trailing week saw essentially $0 of flow, and the funds' average cost basis is near $0.11, above the current price.
Which price series do you use?
Gate.io DOGE/USDT daily closes, cross-checked against CoinEx (maximum discrepancy this week: about $0.000032). On-chain figures come from CoinMetrics (transactions, active addresses, supply) and Blockchair (hashrate, difficulty, fees). Market-cap figures vary across trackers because circulating-supply estimates differ; we compute market cap from on-chain supply times spot price.
